Named after the 18th century rum trade with Europe, the Route du Rhum is a transatlantic single-handed yacht race, which takes place every 4 years in November. Staring from Brittany, France the course takes over 100 die-hard sailors across the vast Atlantic to the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Recent champions include the most illustrious names in the multihull world and most titles are held by French champions. Since 1978 this legendary test of man and machine has been littered with tragedies and triumph.
The biggest challenge for sailors is sleep deprivation, keeping their yachts in one piece and managing weather routing. It is risk management and strategic planning under adverse conditions. Many of our friends have participated and we are thrilled to see them in excellent spirits and doing well in the race. We are sure that they are looking forward to the traditional Ti’Punch rum drink on arrival…
Follow the exciting finish of this high-flying edition of the Route du Rhum.
